This paper provides an analysis of the functional cognitive asymmetries seen in patients with middle cerebral artery (MCA) and internal carotid artery (ICA) aneurysm rupture. These two groups share many cognitive deficits. There are also striking differences in the pattern of impairment. Distinct, seemingly opposed disturbances of cognitive mechanisms in these two groups result in unique profiles in the realms of amnesia, perseveration, and neglect.
